Description
Owners of Seiko Kinetic Watches like the one in the photo:Have you ever tried to use a traditional Box Watch Winder to wind this type of watch? If so, you know that they highly
ineffective
. The axis of rotation runs parallel to the center axis of the watch face. While this type of motion does wind many other types of watches, Seiko's Kinetic watches require a completely different axis of rotation and positioning of the watch when mounted.
After many hours of experimenting with various motors, mounting arm attachments, and watch positioning in respect to rotation axis,we have found that the winder shown was found to be the simplest solution at the least cost. The result is that a 30 minute or less run time can effectively charge a Seiko Kinetic Watch battery so that the watch will run for an average of 3-7 days without any additional motion.
List of components in assembly:
Of course, watch is not included. :)
1
. High torque worm geared 12V DC reduction motor with 6mm shaft
2
. 1-inch diameter aluminum motor shaft coupler with stainless steel setscrew
3
. Foam watch pad disc with center hole to mount on the shaft coupler - protects watch back from damage
4
. Illuminated button (green) on/off switch - maintains illumination while motor is powered on
5
. 3 millimeter thick formed aluminum mounting bar with 2 mounting holes for permanent mounting (as alternative to using the included 2-inch desk clamp)
6
. 2-inch open jaw capacity clamp for quick desk/table attachment and removal
7
. 12V DC power supply with quick disconnect couplers and 2 meter long cable. Power supply can be plugged into wall outlet with body facing up or down.
Fully assembled winder
- Simply plug in the power supply to a 110-120V AC outlet receptacle, connect in the end of the power supply cable plug to the switch wires' female plug, wrap the watch tightly around the foam tubular piece, and push this assembly onto the shaft coupler. Adjust the watch as shown in the included quick startup procedure. Press the start switch and let the winding process continue for minutes or hours. The longer it winds, the more fully charged the watch battery will be.
