The 7505 grt steamship
Ariadne
was originally Swedish Lloyd’s
Patricia
.
Built by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson, Newcastle, England in 1951.
In 1957 she was sold to Hamburg-America, who gave her the name
Ariadne
.
In November 1960 she was sold to McCormick Shipping Corp.,
and was operated by Atlantic Cruise Lines Inc., Miami.
In May 1961 she was sold to Ariadne Shipping CO Ltd, Nassau, Bahamas,
a subsidiary of Eastern Steamship Corp. and chartered to Caribbean Cruise Line.
Lead by different CEOs, Eastern ran the ship from 1961-1969.
A man named Fraser owned the line so the funnel sported an "F",
in 1962, Lovett bought the company, re-marking the funnel with an "L".
In 1969 the vessel was sold to Ares Shipping Corp. In 1972 sold to Minos Navigation Co Ltd, Monrovia.
In May 1973 she was sold to Bon Vivant Cruises Inc,
who renamed the ship
Freeport II
and chartered her to
Bahama Cruise Line.
In April 1974 the ship’s name was changed to
Bon Vivant
and chartered to Flagship Cruises.
In 1975 returned to Bahama Cruise Line.
From 1976 she moved to various ports with good intentions but resulted in her lay-up.
In 1989 she was renamed
Empress Katerina
and again moved for lay-up.
In December 1997 she was renamed
Empress 65
for her voyage to the scrap yard at Alang, India.
