    Description

ONE center gear repair kit for Sony DD walkman - NEW
This kit solves famous center gear crack problem. Now, anyone can fix the gear himself, quickly and easily.  There is no need to remove gear + metal disc from it's arm.
I spent months of hard work to find suitable design and dimensions. I tested it in many different walkmans and all work very well. Also, there are no more FF/REW problems, caused by old gear plastic deformations. With new center gear, walkman runs smoothly and mechanics is silent. Wow/Flutter was tested to be in specs. Accuracy is guaranteed by design. New plastic gear is pushed to the old metal disc, with help of another metal ring. The whole assembly gets more professional look because part of the new ring is made of metal.
Kit includes only what is displayed on the second image:
    - one white plastic gear
    - one support metal ring
    - six screws
Kit doesn't include old center gear arm and original metal disc!
Together with this kit, you will very probably need also
    RUBBER CAPSTAN RING
    and
    SMALL REEL GEAR
, which is usually cracked, too. You can find these parts in my store. I have also fix for broken door hinge, if needed.
    How to replace the gear:
    1. Remove the old cracked black gear ring
    2. Insert new white gear to the metal disc (red spot must be located down)
    3. Place metal ring on top of the gear (blue spot must be located up)
    4. From bottom side, carefully join new gear and ring using six M1.4 special screws.
Use similar method as when you fasten wheel of your car.
    5. You can secure screws using lacquer

MY products are NEW, maximum 2 years old
. After 2 years, I will order new production.
    In most cases,
replacing the ring, fixing center ring crack and adjusting motor speed
(for non-quartz controlled models) is quick-win. However, to bring walkman to the original specs, more tasks should be done.
    Please, see the FAQ section
    below for more details.
    There are also
other parts for this player available
    in my store, like
    capstan ring, or door hinge

The reason, why I sell the repair kit is, that I want to encourage people in keeping their old walkmans. That's why I SELL for the lowest-possible price. Do not ask me for discounts, the price per ring could be lower only if they were made and sold in tens of thousands. The sell price includes all eBay and PayPal fees, packing material and the ring itself. Generally, I do not accept returns. However, if the product is defective, I will send you new one.

    FAQ section
Q: How do I open walkman and remove center gear arm?
A: I'm preparing step-by-step repair manual for dummies. Stay tuned, I will publish this information here
Q: Walkman runs too slow or too fast, even after I replaced the belt.
A: This is not belt issue. This is old device and speed has to be re-adjusted. Please, see the previous answer
    Q: I can hear lot of wow/flutter
A: There can be many reasons for it.  Most often it is worn pinch roller, dirt in the belt path, dirty or dry moving parts of walkman, polished capstan, dry capstan bearings, wrong belt size or quality, etc.
Q: Do you also fix walkmans?
A: Yes, I’ve fixed many of them.  Usually for my friends and for me. I have about 400 of them. Sometimes I also fix walkmans  for eBay members but I'm very busy.
Q: I need advice regarding fixing walkmans
A: I am very glad to help. Unfortunately, I get so many question, that I'm not able to answer them all. Pl
ease visit tapeheads.net or stereo2go.com sites and ask experienced members, there. Answers are then available for everyone. I also contribute there.
Q: Do you also sell walkmans?
A: Not now, may be one day...
Q: My model is not listed, do you have belt, pinch roller or idler for it?
A: If it is not listed, it means that I do not have information about the size. In  case of the belt, please measure the belt length. Stretch a piece of string along the belt path and measure the belt circumference. Send the measures to me. From this I can measure the original belt size. In case of pinch roller, send me the outer diameter, rubber height, hub height and hole diameter.
Q: What belts do you sell?
A: I sell only hard-to-get belts used in later walkman models. Thicker belts used in early models should be available elsewhere.
Q: After I hit play button, I can hear only slight motor noise and then it stops. Is it belt issue, or is it something else?
A: Yes, it is very probably the belt issue.
Q: How long do belts usually last?
A: Usually about 20 years. It depends on the amount of additives added during vulcanization process. I tried to avoid using too much additives for increasing the material elasticity, so I hope the belt will last longer. But who knows...
