Rosh Hashana is referred to in the Torah as "Day of Teruah" and "Remembrance of Teruah"
The book of Bamidbar - Numbers - Chapter 29 ,
Verse 1
"And in the seventh month, on the first day, there shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall not perform any mundane work. It shall be a day of shofar sounding for you."
from the bible: "And the blowing of the shofar is a trumpet ... You shall deliver a shofar throughout your land"
Chazal learned that the shofar blowing a simple shofar before and after each trumpet.
Accordingly, the commandment from the Torah includes nine voices - three cheers and six blowings.
