She was the first in her class and has two sisters,
Monarch of the Seas
(1991) and
Majesty of the Seas
(1992).
Considered the industry's first true mega-liner, with a 2,800-passenger capacity,
the
Sovereign

Centrum)
at sea.
She has
a top-deck, funnel-mounted Viking Crown Lounge with panoramic views of the sea.
The ship features 9 bars, 5 restaurants, 4 pools, spa, casino, and many other amenities
.
The ship set the standard's for the 1990's and is still asserting it’s self.
In 2005 she underwent a multi-million dollar refurbishment
and sailed to the Bahamas from Port Canaveral, Florida, until 2009.
In January of 2009 she was sold to RCCL’s Spanish subsidiary
Pullmantur Cruises Sovereign Ltd, Valletta, Malta, and renamed

In 2013 the
Sovereign
received Pullmantur's new look, a blue hull.

Monarch
were placed into "cold lay-up"
and Pullmantur Cruises filed for financial reorganization.
According to reports,
the interiors of the ships were stripped of "everything of value".
On July 23, 2020 she was beached in Aliağa, Turkey,
alongside her sister ship
Monarch
, which was beached one day before.
