Merry Christmas Happy New Year R Maresch Lumber Nekoma Kansas Advertising Plate
This is an antique advertising / promotional plate that reads, " Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Greetings from R. Maresch Lumber Co., Nekoma, Kansas". The plate measures 7 1/4" diameter and features a colorful flower basket motif. The maker's mark on the back reads, " D.E. McNichols East Liverpool, O. ". The town of Nekoma is now a ghost town. Back in the day this lumber company probably supplied lumber for every structure there. It's a real piece of Kansas history. The plate dates to late 1800's or early 1900's and is without cracks but has everyday wear as would be expected of a household item of this age.

McNichols Pottery Company was founded by John McNichol in 1869. He died in 1882 and his son Daniel took over.(D.E McNichol).  The potterycompany was a big operation and had many kilns at two locations in East Liverpool, Ohio. Later the company added another location in Clarksburg W.VA 1914 . Those items would be then marked with Clarksburg W.VA location. So I assume this helps date this plate to the East Liverpool years under son Daniel's rein of operation and East Liverpool location (1882-1914).
